Ingredients

  • Portobello Mushrooms- 4. Clean and remove the stems.
  • Balsamic Vinegar- ⅓ cup
  • Olive Oil– ¼ cup.
  • Cumin- ½ teaspoon.
  • Paprika- ½ teaspoon.
  • Garlic- 3 cloves chopped or minced.
  • Seasonings as desired– up to one tablespoon. Feel free to mix seasonings too. This can include Italian Seasonings Mediterranean Diet Seasoning Blend, Greek Seasoning Blend, a Vegan Steak Seasoning, Salt, and/or Pepper.

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400. Prepare the mushrooms by cleaning off the dirt and removing the stems. Removing the gills from the underside of the caps is optional. Then place the mushrooms upside down in a large baking dish,
  • To make the sauce, simply whisk together the remaining ingredients. Add seasoning as needed.
  • Use a brush, such as a pastry brush or marinade brush. Brush the sauce all over the mushrooms including the tops and bottoms. Then place the mushrooms back into the baking dish with the undersides up (upside down).
  • I should also mention that you can add vegetable to the baking dish to bake with the Portobello steaks. I like asparagus which I would add half way through as they take a shorter time to bake and I am not a fan of mushy asparagus.
  • Bake the Portobello mushroom steaks for 20 minutes. Flip the mushrooms over and if there is any remaining sauce you can pour or brush it on top.
  • Bake for another five to ten minutes or until the mushrooms brown.

Recipe Notes

I mentioned that you can clean your mushrooms by using a clean damp paper towel to wipe the dirt off of them before using them in this recipe. Then allow the mushrooms to dry fully before adding them to this recipe.
Removing the gills from the underside of the caps is optional.
Simply use a spoon to scoop the gills out if desired. Then remove the stems as we are trying to make these steaks seem more like real steaks.
