Ingredients

  • Garbanzo Beans– 1 15 ounce can that has been drained and then rinsed.
  • Unsweetened Cocoa Powder– ¼ cup.
  • Honey– 4 tablespoons. Can alternatively use maple syrup or another sugar alternative instead. Also feel free to use less or more sweetener as desired.
  • Vanilla Extract– 1 teaspoon.
  • Salt- ½ teaspoon.
  • Water- 1-2 tablespoons as needed. Almond or similar nut milk can be used instead.

Instructions

  • Prepare your garbanzo beans as indicated above, making sure that you have both drained and rinsed them before adding them to this recipe.
  • Place the garbanzo beans, cocoa powder, honey (or alternative sweetener), vanilla extract, and sale into the blender or food processor.
  • Puree the ingredients until somewhat smooth. Add the water or almond milk as needed until you achieve your desired consistency for hummus. Feel free to add additional honey or sweetener as needed too.
  • Store the hummus covered in the refrigerator.

Recipe Notes

I mentioned that mentioned that using a can of garbanzo beans that are basically ready to go into a recipe is a great hack for this recipe. Also, I mentioned that chocolate flavor simply comes from using unsweetened cocoa powder, which is something that you probably already have in your kitchen cupboard.
I also mentioned that this recipe for vegan chocolate hummus works great in a food processor. I like to make mine in my Vitamix blender.
Sweetening for this hummus will come from maple syrup or honey. However, you could alternatively use a banana or sugar alternative instead.
