Most everyone can probably agree on macaroni and cheese.
Also, most folks can agree that mac and cheese is the ultimate choice for a comfort food.
Serving up a macaroni and cheese dinner can certainly make anyone feel that comfort.
And, sometimes that comfort can make us feel more friendly or even romantic.
Macaroni and Cheese is that well known pasta dish.
That pasta is covered in a most amazing and delicious cheese sauce.
The pasta that is used in this well loved meal is elbow macaroni pasta.
You may already be aware that there are many ways to make macaroni and cheese.
Sure, if you are in a hurry or feel like making a small effort, you could opt for a store bought kit. You could also opt for a ready made mac and cheese meal in a cup.
But, making homemade macaroni and cheese is really like none of those easy options.
Not only are you putting your love into making the mac and cheese, you know every ingredient that is going into making it.
Knowing exactly what is going into my macaroni and cheese really is something that I do appreciate.
I must also add that making your own macaroni and cheese has other benefits as well.
For one, you will have those wonderful bragging rights that you made your own macaroni and cheese from scratch.
And also, you can amp up your meal by adding special ingredients such as a really yummy cheese.
Having said that there is a standard ingredient that goes into making macaroni and cheese from scratch.
That ingredient is elbow pasta. Sometimes called elbow macaroni, this really is not a macaroni and cheese meal without the elbow pasta.
You can find elbow macaroni online.
I have found in gluten free elbow macaroni as well as in the extra protein elbow macaroni.
Also, elbow macaroni is available in low carbohydrate varieties.
You will also need cheese to make this.
The standard macaroni cheese is cheddar cheese. I usually opt for a sharp variety of cheddar when I make macaroni and cheese.
However, you could certainly personalize this recipe using another kind of cheese.
Gruyère cheese is a fabulous cheese that will amaze you in this recipe. You could also blend in any great tasting Italian cheese in this recipe as well.
I am using an unusual ingredient in this recipe.
Well, am unusual ingredient for macaroni and cheese that is.
This ingredient is not the usual ingredient that you would expect to add to macaroni and cheese.
A beaten egg is added to this macaroni and cheese recipe.
Are you surprised about this? I was but, then I read how a beaten egg, when correctly introduced to the sauce, can make the sauce even creamier. Texture of the sauce is important to macaroni and cheese if you ask me.
We are going to use both the stove and the oven for this great recipe.
The stove is instumental in making the perfect cheesy sauce.
Having said that, the oven is essential to making all of the ingredients work together to make the perfect meal.

As mentioned, you will need elbow macaroni pasta for this recipe.

What you need to make this Baked Mac and Cheese for Two
- Elbow Macaroni – 1 ½ cups cooked.
- Shredded Cheese- 1 cup. Cheddar Cheese is the standard. However, as mentioned above, Gruyère cheese is a fabulous cheese that will amaze you in this recipe. You could also blend in any great tasting Italian cheese in this recipe as well.
- Butter- 2 tablespoons melted.
- Milk- ½ cup. Whole milk will give you a creamier macaroni and cheese than skim or other milks.
- Egg- 1 lightly beaten.
- Seasonings to taste- salt, pepper, etc.
- Additional cheese for topping if desired.
How to Make this Baked Mac and Cheese for Two .
- Start by preheating you oven to 350 and prepping a 1 quart baking dish for nonstick.
- In a large mixing bowl, stir together your cooked and cooled elbow macaroni pasta with the cheese. Set this bowl aside.
- Next, in another bowl, whisk together the melted butter and the milk. Then you can whisk in the egg.
- Pour half of the contents from the second bowl over the elbow macaroni and cheese in the first bowl. Stir this gently and then stir in the remaining contents from the second bowl. Add any desired seasonings here as well.
- Transfer the ingredients to your prepared baking dish. Top with any additional cheese if desired. Bake or 25-30 minutes or until your macaroni and cheese begins to brown around the edges and bubble towards the center.
- Allow this to cool before serving.
What kind of wine should you pair this Baked Mac and Cheese for Two with?
A chardonnay work great especially one without an oaked taste to it. I also like the idea of a Pinot Noir with macaroni and cheese.
The cheese that you use in your macaroni and cheese should have the dominant flavor and the wine should compliment this.
