You may be wondering what is the difference between grilled mushroom skewers and kabobs.
Technically, kabobs usually include meat or poultry cooked on skewers.
Many people use the terms kabobs and skewers interchangeably as a result.
Kabobs are usually made with meat along with other ingredients.
Those other ingredients are usually chunks of fruit or vegetables.
However, you certainly can make a kabob that is vegan.
People ask what type of mushroom is best for grilling.
If you are grilling a mushrooms as the main part of a meal, using a large mushroom is a good idea.
You can easily place a large mushroom on a bun and eat it like a hamburger.
Since the mushrooms in this recipe are cooked on a skewer and not intended to replace a burger in a bun, a smaller mushroom is just fine to use.
I like Baby Bella or Cremini mushrooms for this recipe.
Using mushrooms that are similar in size will make grilling easier for you as well.
Easy Grilled Mushroom Skewers
Simple tips for grilling.
I suggest that you start with a clean grill for best results. This is partially because you do not want old stuck on food from the grill grates to ruin your mushrooms.
Here are some more great tips for you.
- This recipe is perfect for summer grilling. However, you can make grilled skewer mushrooms any time of the year on an indoor grill.
- Grilling these mushrooms should be done at a distant from any meat or poultry that may be on the grill. Yes, there is a risk for contamination. But, also, the foods differ in heat that is needed for grilling.
- This recipe can be prepared in advance. Simply prepare the mushrooms and place them in a baking dish. Cover the baking dish with foil or wrap and place it into the refrigerator. Remove the baking dish about 20 minutes before grilling to allow the mushrooms to get to room temperature.
I have been asked what's the healthiest way to cook mushrooms.
Mushrooms really are flexible and easy to work with.
You can easily grill your mushrooms, add them to soup, or even eat them as they are.
By the way, mushrooms are sometimes classified as a vegetable.
Technically, they are fungi or a fungus (like the mushrooms that grow on your lawn).
I like that they are low in calories, carbs, and fat.
Here is how to prepare your mushrooms for this recipe.
Use a paper towel or clean dish towel to wipe the dirt off of your mushroom. Removing the gills is not necessary as these are small mushrooms. You can trim the edges of the stems however, I would keep the stems intact.

I like wooden skewers as they are inexpensive and easy to clean up.
While this recipe is simply for mushrooms that are grilled, you are welcome to add other ingredients to the skewers.
I suggest using smaller vegetables or fruit if you will be adding anything else to the skewer.
Small tomatoes (grape sized) or pineapple chunks would work.
Ingredients needed to make grilled mushrooms.

- Olive Oil- 1 ½ tablespoon.
- Soy Sauce- ½ tablespoon.

How to make easy grilled mushrooms.
- Prepare the mushrooms by cleaning them. I like to wipe my mushrooms with a clean kitchen towel or paper towel. It is okay to trim off the edge of the stem however, keep the stem attached. Thread each mushroom onto the skewers, taking care to leave plenty of room on the edges. Three to four mushrooms are probably enough on each skewer. When you thread the mushrooms, do so from top to bottom leaving the stem facing the outside (see photos).
- In a small mixing bowl, use a whisk or a fork to blend together the olive oil, soy sauce, vinegar, and seasonings. Then use a food brush to coat all of the mushrooms with the mixture.
- When ready to grill, preheat the grill to a medium heat. Grill for 10 to 12 minutes or until fork-tender, rotating as needed (halfway through).
