I am not kidding when I say that this is an Easy Roasted Red Pepper Dip recipe.
It is also a pretty healthy and diet friendly dip as well.
Easy Roasted Red Pepper Dip
I am growing more friendly to roasted vegetables every day.
Just check out my Honey Roasted Carrots and Fire Roasted Tomatoes and you will see (or taste) for yourself.
Roasting can be a healthy way to make something.
It is basically using dry heat to prepare something. That dry heat can be in the form of a grill, oven, or even a combo oven (I love making food in mine).
Finding the perfect red pepper for roasting can be a confusing thing to do.
I am someone who cannot eat those hot peppers such as chili peppers. For me, I like to grow and eat the sweeter bell peppers.
This recipe for roasted pepper dip is not intended to be a hot dip.
The ingredient proportions are intended for a red bell peppers. You can buy red peppers already roasted for you or you can roast them yourself.
How to roast red peppers.
Roasting the red peppers is done to enhance the flavor of them.
You can roast red peppers on the stove or in the oven.
Here is how to roast the red peppers in an oven.
- Preheat the oven to 500 and prep a baking sheet with aluminum foil .
- Divide the peppers into quarters and remove the seeds and insides.
- Roast the peppers until they begin to blacken and blister. This should take about 30-35 minutes. You should roast the quarters as needed during roasting to prevent uneven roasting.
- Remove the peppers from the oven and cover immediately with foil or a clean kitchen towel. Allow the peppers to cool for at least a half hour at which time the skins should be able to easily peel away.
Tips making your Easy Roasted Red Pepper Dip
As mentioned, you can buy red peppers already roasted for you or you can roast them yourself. I just provided you with instructions on how to roast them yourself.
Here are some more helpful tips.
- Add a bit of olive oil to the peppers when you remove them from the oven to give the peppers more flavor.
- You can freeze away any extra roasted red peppers for later use as well.
- Add some low fat cream cheese and some Greek Yogurt (1 cup total or as needed) to make this dip a spreadable white dip.
- Pomegranate Molasses is traditionally added to this recipe in order to thicken it up and add a bit of sweetness. Alternatively, you can use regular molasses (not necessarily blackstrap) or even try adding honey.
You are probably wondering what you can serve this roasted pepper dip with.
I like to think of this recipe as kind of like a salsa. Therefore, I will dip whole wheat flatbread chips or my homemade chickpea chips in this dip.
But, if you are adding a bit of dairy to this recipe, you have additional choices to dip into this dip.
A crusty bread that is sliced comes to mind. Also, why not try dipping some sliced vegetables into this dip option?
This recipe can be made in a food processor.
You could alternatively simply make this dip by hand. I like to use my Vitamix blender.
