It is also a great recipe idea for an appetizer or snack!

    Air Fried Tofu Bites

This is a simple recipe for air fried tofu that reminds me so much of air fried cheese.
However, this air fried tofu is both vegan and keto diet friendly.

Did you try my 20 Minute Tofu Stir Fry recipe?

That tofu recipe is a tasty vegan version of a popular Asian style dinner that can be made in a skillet or a wok.
This recipe is a bit more simple to make and is made in an air fryer.

This recipe is for anyone asking can you fry tofu in an air fryer.

The easy answer is yes. However, you may want to do a little work first.

Here is how to get a more crispy tofu.

If you would like to make sure that your tofu comes out crisp, you can remove excess water before cutting it into cubes. Simply wrap the tofu in a clean kitchen towel and place something heavy, like a skillet or heavy can, on top for about 20 minutes to allow it to drain.

How to make Vegan Ranch Sauce or Dressing.

This is a basic recipe for vegan ranch sauce. You can add additional 'milk' to thin it out for a ranch dressing or additional 'mayonnaise' to thicken it up.

In a medium bowl or blender, mix together the following ingredients.

    • Vegan Mayonnaise- ½ cup
    • Nut milk or other Vegan Milk- ¼ cup
    • Garlic- 2 cloves
    • Parsley- ¼ cup.
    • Pepper- ¼ teaspoon.
    • Lemon Juice- 3 tablespoons. That is about one small lemon.
    • Seasonings as desired. This can include Italian Seasonings, Mediterranean Diet Seasoning Blend, Greek Seasoning Blend, Salt, and/or Pepper.

Tips for making air fried tofu.

Earlier I mentioned that you can get a more crisp air fried tofu result by pressing the tofu before cutting it into cubes. To press the tofu, simple wrap it in a clean towel and place something heavy (skillet for example) on top for about 20 minutes.

Here are some more great tips for you.

    1. I would serve these tofu nuggets as an appetizer or on the side with something else. However, these tofu nuggets would certainly taste great on top of a salad!
    2. I provided a recipe for a ranch dip to serve this with. Having said that, these tofu nuggets would also taste good with a mustard and maple dip for a sweet and sour taste or the classic vegan aioli mayonnaise.
    3. This recipe calls for almond flour to make it both gluten free and keto diet friendly. Feel free to swap almond flour out for traditional breadcrumbs or even for panko for a crispier texture if desired.

People ask what does tofu taste like.

If you were to eat tofu right out of the container you would probably not be impressed.
However, this is one vegan source for protein that is a popular one.

    Tofu works well in recipes.

This is a great ingredient to add to recipes because it can mimic the texture of other nonvegan food such as chicken. Tofu is also absorbent which means it picks up the flavor of other ingredients such as garlic and seasonings which can result in something that tastes pretty good.

Here is how to store leftover tofu nuggets.

Certainly, tofu tastes bests when it has been freshly made.
However, leftovers can be stored in an air tight container for up to five days in a refrigerator. You may want to crisp them up in a toaster over if possible before serving.

Ingredients needed to make Air Fried Tofu Bites

The chickpea flour and water are alternatives for eggs. Feel free to sub in about 3 real eggs or your favorite egg substitute.

    • Tofu- 1 pound. Firm or extra firm works best. Feel free to press or drain the tofu for a more crisp result.
    • Chickpea Flour- 3 tablespoons.
    • Water- 3 tablespoons.
    • Almond Flour- 1 cup.
    • Paprika- 1 teaspoon.
    • Seasonings as desired. This can include Italian Seasonings, Mediterranean Diet Seasoning Blend, Greek Seasoning Blend, Salt, and/or Pepper.

How to make Air Fried Tofu Bites With Vegan Ranch

    • Press the tofu if you would like to remove excess water and thus, make a more crisp tofu nugget as a result. The tofu, not matter whether or not pressed, should be cut into ½ inch bite sized squares.
    • To make the vegan eggs, simply whisk together the chickpea flour with the water.
    • I suggest using two shallow bowls to make this recipe. In the first bowl, place the vegan egg. The second bowl should have almond flour that has been whisked or mixed with the seasonings (paprika etc).
    • Preheat the air fryer to 375.
    • Use a fork to pick up the first tofu square and dip it into the vegan egg. Then hold it over the bowl with the dry ingredients and use a spoon to scoop up the dry ingredients to sprinkle over the tofu until covered. Place the nugget into the basket of the air fryer. Repeat this until you have filled the basket, keeping the the nuggets in a single layer (you may need to make this recipe in batches depending on the size of your basket).
    • Air fry for 15 to 20 minutes, or until golden brown, shaking the basket every five minutes.
    • Serve immediately.
