Did you see my recipe for Vegan & Paleo Avocado Ice Cream?

That recipe for Avocado Ice cream reminds me a lot of this recipe for an avocado smoothie.
However, this recipe is for a delicious smoothie that you can take with you on the go!

The first thing that I wondered about was can you mix banana with avocado.

I mean, their flavors are really nothing alike one another.
Could an avocado actually taste good with a banana?

The truth is that yes, you can mix the two flavors together successfully.

Keep in mind that there are other ingredients that will help the two get along with one another.
Also, avocados and bananas have similar textures which can help them get along well in a smoothie or other recipe.

If you are wondering does avocado taste good in a smoothie then you should keep this in mind.

We are not just adding an avocado to this recipe for taste. We are adding avocado as healthy fat that brings a great texture too.

As far as avocados go, sure they will add some taste.

But, the flavor of avocados is not a strong one, as you probably already know.
And also, I have found that adding the avocado really makes this smoothie seem more like a milkshake and less than a cold drink especially when I am enjoying the smoothie slowly.

Here are some tips or hacks for making smoothies.

I should start out by mentioning that the blender that you are using to make your smoothie can make a difference in how well your smoothie turns out. When I make smoothies I like to use a Vitamix blender for example because it is sturdy and can take on a variety of textures and ingredients well.

Here are some more great smoothie making tips for you.

  1. This recipe is for a basic smoothie. Feel free to add healthy vegetables such as kale or spinach to amp up your smoothie as desired.
  2. Greek Yogurt is a dairy ingredient that is added to this recipe to both assist the avocado and banana in getting along and to add to the consistency of the smoothie. Feel free to substitute in a vegan alternative such as a vegan milk instead. Coconut milk or a nut milk would probably go well in this recipe for example.
  3. Adding additional ice can make this a thicker smoothie without adding extra calories etc. On the flip-side, adding more yogurt (or alternative) or fewer ice cubes can make this a thinner in texture beverage.
  4. I have not tried this but, I would bet that adding a bit of unsweetened cocoa can make this a chocolate avocado and banana smoothies. Just sayin’ 🙂 .

When you are blending up your ingredients you may be wondering what is the best way get a consistency in a smoothie.

I just mentioned in my tips above that you can alter the amounts of certain ingredients that are added in order to make your smoothie thinner or thicker. This is especially true for the ice and dairy (or alternative) that are added.

Adding additional ingredients can alter the consistency as well.

I also mentioned in my tips that adding certain ingredients such as spinach or kale can affect the consistency.
Some folks like to add protein or similar powders to their smoothies to bulk them up too.

The order that you add your ingredients can have an affect on the smoothie.

I once learned the hard way, add the most liquid ingredients first and then fruits/veggies followed by the ice.
This order is essential for both proper blending, texture, and not over-powering your blender.
