Easy Avocado Chocolate Mousse

Easy Avocado Chocolate Mousse

An easy and delicious way to get a great tasting chocolate mousse that is made with avocadoes.
The avocadoes give this mousse such a wonderful and thick texture that makes this dessert even better!

Did you try my recipe for chocolate fudge made with avocado?

That fudge recipe reminds me so much of this one because both recipes feature both the healthy fat from avocados and the tasty flavor of chocolate.
This recipe however, is a mousse that can be eaten with a spoon.

This recipe is especially for anyone asking is chocolate mousse bad.

I must say that this recipe for chocolate mousse is indeed not bad.
In my opinion, this recipe for chocolate mousse is better than chocolate pudding.

What makes this chocolate mousse recipe so good is the ingredients that are in it.

Chocolate mousse is typically made with fat from heavy cream as well as sugar.
However, this recipe has fat from avocadoes (the kind of fat that we are told to eat) and there is not added sugar unless you decide to put it in there.

If you were wondering how do you eat avocado dessert, this avocado mousse can be eaten with a spoon.

This chocolate mousse made with avocados is simply a chocolate mousse.
It is thick and chocolaty dessert that will please most anyone.

Yes, you can serve this chocolate mousse alone in a cup and eat it with a spoon.

However, this chocolate mousse recipe also tastes good with fruit on top.
I like smaller berries such as blueberries, raspberries, or even a strawberry or two.

Blend Mousse Until Smooth

Tips for making mousse.

What makes this mousse so easy to make is that it does not contain eggs or cold whipping cream.
This means that you need not have to worry about eating raw eggs or issues with tempering chocolate when cold whipping cream is added to it.

Here are some more great tips for you.

  1. This recipe calls for unsweetened dark chocolate chips. Feel free to use the sweetened chocolate chips if you want a sweeter tasting mousse. Another option is to use a sugar free dark chocolate chip.
  2. While this recipe does not include added sugar, there are options for sweetening this mousse. I suggest using a liquid sweetener such as agave nectar, maple syrup, or a sugar free liquid sweetener of your choices that measures 1:1 with agave or maple syrup (you would need to use less honey).
  3. This recipe can be made in a food processor or good blender. An immersion blender would also work great!

You may be wondering what is the best way to melt chocolate chips.

There are really two great ways to melt chocolate chips.
To melt chocolate on the stovetop, place the chocolate chips in the top of a double boiler over barely simmering water. The stove melting method keeps the chocolate away from direct heat, which allows it to melt at a low enough temperature to prevent scorching and separating.

You can alternatively melt the chocolate chips in the microwave using a microwave safe bowl.

Simply place the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave the chips for 30 seconds on high power. Remove the bowl from the microwave and stir the chocolate. Place the bowl back for another 30 seconds on high power. After this, keep microwaving the chocolate chips on high power for 10-second increments, stirring in between every time until the chocolate is smooth and fully melted.

How to store chocolate mousse.

Mousse needs time to set in a refrigerator prior to serving. I like to refrigerate the mousse in the glasses that you will be serving it is as this will help the mousse maintain its texture and temperature.

Easy Avocado Chocolate Mousse

I mentioned above that this recipe calls for unsweetened dark chocolate chips. Feel free to use the sweetened chocolate chips if you want a sweeter tasting mousse. Another option is to use a sugar free dark chocolate chip.

Also mentioned, this recipe does not include added sugar.

However, there are options for sweetening this mousse if desired. I suggest using a liquid sweetener such as agave nectar, maple syrup, or a sugar free liquid sweetener of your choices that measures 1:1 with agave or maple syrup (you would need to use less honey).

Ingredients needed to make Chocolate Mousse .

  • Unsweetened Dark Chocolate Chips– ½ cup. Feel free to use the sweetened chocolate chips if you want a sweeter tasting mousse. Another option is to use a sugar free dark chocolate chip.
  • Avocado-2 average sized avocadoes. The softer the better (this recipe is a great way to use up older avocadoes!).
  • Unsweetened Cocoa Powder– 3 tablespoons.
  • Almond Milk- ¼ cup. Feel free to use sweetened almond milk or another vegan nut milk as desired.
  • Vanilla Extract– 1 teaspoon.
  • Salt- ½ teaspoon.
  • Optional- up to three teaspoons or as needed of liquid sweetener such as agave nectar, maple syrup, or a sugar free liquid sweetener of your choices that measures 1:1 with agave or maple syrup (you would need to use less honey).

How to make Easy Avocado Chocolate Mousse

  • Melt the chocolate as described above. Earlier I mentioned how to melt chocolate chips using the stovetop or microwave methods.
  • Remove the chocolate from the heat and allow it to cool for a few minutes. Meanwhile, you can use a food processor or good blender or an immersion blender and large mixing bowl to blend together the remaining ingredients until about half blended. Then add the melted chocolate and pulse the ingredients until you reach a smooth consistency.
  • Transfer the mousse to glasses (wine, juice, or your favorite) and refrigerate for at least two hours or until set (overnight works!). Serve with your favorite topping such as fruit if desired.
