Tips for making mousse.
What makes this mousse so easy to make is that it does not contain eggs or cold whipping cream.
This means that you need not have to worry about eating raw eggs or issues with tempering chocolate when cold whipping cream is added to it.
Here are some more great tips for you.
- This recipe calls for unsweetened dark chocolate chips. Feel free to use the sweetened chocolate chips if you want a sweeter tasting mousse. Another option is to use a sugar free dark chocolate chip.
- While this recipe does not include added sugar, there are options for sweetening this mousse. I suggest using a liquid sweetener such as agave nectar, maple syrup, or a sugar free liquid sweetener of your choices that measures 1:1 with agave or maple syrup (you would need to use less honey).
- This recipe can be made in a food processor or good blender. An immersion blender would also work great!
You may be wondering what is the best way to melt chocolate chips.
There are really two great ways to melt chocolate chips.
To melt chocolate on the stovetop, place the chocolate chips in the top of a double boiler over barely simmering water. The stove melting method keeps the chocolate away from direct heat, which allows it to melt at a low enough temperature to prevent scorching and separating.

You can alternatively melt the chocolate chips in the microwave using a microwave safe bowl.
Simply place the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave the chips for 30 seconds on high power. Remove the bowl from the microwave and stir the chocolate. Place the bowl back for another 30 seconds on high power. After this, keep microwaving the chocolate chips on high power for 10-second increments, stirring in between every time until the chocolate is smooth and fully melted.
How to store chocolate mousse.
Mousse needs time to set in a refrigerator prior to serving. I like to refrigerate the mousse in the glasses that you will be serving it is as this will help the mousse maintain its texture and temperature.
