This recipe for Easy Salted Chickpea Chips really makes for a great snack.
I like that I know every ingredient that goes into making these.

    Easy Salted Chickpea Chips

    Easy Salted Chickpea Chips

This is a cracker that is friendly to the Mediterranean Diet.
Not many crackers can boast that nice detail.

One reason why this recipe is so friendly to the Mediterranean Diet is that it is made with chickpea flour.
Chickpea flour is made entirely from chickpeas that have been ground up. As you probably already know, chickpeas are a member of the legume family.

By the way, chickpeas are often referred to as garbanzo beans.

While you may see flour that called 'chickpea flour' it could be also called 'garbanzo bean flour'.
It really is best to read the label on the package to be sure that what you are buying 100% chickpea or garbanzo bean flour.

Here is one example of Organic Chickpea Flour/Garbanzo Bean Flour .

Anthony's Organic Chickpea Flour/Garbanzo Bean Flour

    Anthony's Organic Chickpea Flour/Garbanzo Bean Flour .
    About the product
    USDA Organic Chickpea Flour
Batch Tested and Verified Gluten Free
Also known as Garbanzo Bean or Besan Flour
Naturally dense flour with good binding tendencies
Great Gluten-Free alternative for baking, thickening sauces, soups and gravies!.

Chickpea Flour is a popular gluten free flour.

It can be subbed in for all purpose flour however, not in the same proportions as chickpea flour is a thicker flour.
I would start with half of the called amount of all purpose flour and work up to three quarters of the amount adding a bit of chickpea flour at a time.

I will say that chickpea flour is said to be one of the most healthy flours available.
That is because it has fiber, protein, & vitamins. As a result chickpea flour can help contribute to a lower glycemic index.
It also has some vitamins and minerals such as calcium and magnesium.

Chickpea flour may also a more popular gluten free flour because holds up better than many of the others.

If you are familiar with gluten free baking then you have probably had to use a binder with gluten free flour. This is because the gluten that normally glues a bread or cracker together is gone (hence the term 'gluten free').

Because of its texture, chickpea flour can work as a thickener as well.
You probably have added all purpose flour to gravy in order to thicken it in the past.
Well, chickpea flour is a great gluten free alternative that can be used in the place of all purpose flour.

Think of these chips as the crunchy sibling of a great hummus.
However, you surly could dip your crackers into that hummus too! 🙂
