This Spinach Feta Pie is actually really easy to make.
However, it also looks pretty impressive when it is served up!

Spinach Feta Pie

Spinach Feta Pie

This is just one more great way to serve up some great tasting spinach in some phyllo dough.
It is also a great tasting version of this combination.

I like that this takes the typical stuffed phyllo idea and transforms it into something that can be served beyond an appetizer.
Sure, you can cut this delicious pie into small pieces to serve up to your guest the next time that you entertain for a party or pot luck.
But, you could also serve this as part of your meal as well!

Obviously, as you may suspect, this is a Greek inspired recipe.

You will probably agree with me that nothing says “Greek” more than perhaps phyllo dough and Feta Cheese.
This is one of my personal favorite combinations too!

This truly is one of those great Mediterranean diet recipes as a result.
In my opinion, that would mean that it is not one of those unhealthy and over-processed food ideas.
I can certainly appreciate this being a healthier recipe to share with the people that I wan to share this great tasting dish with.

I am not sure if I would call this as “authentic spanakopita recipe” as some folks may call it.

When I think of an authentic spanakopita recipe, I think of the bite sized appetizers.
However, since this recipe does have the major players in it, as in ingredients, that you would find in a spanakopita recipe, it could be called one if you desire to call it that.

I do have a great Spanakopita Dip recipe that you may also like.

That dip recipe is basically the filling part of your favorite spanakopita appetizer recipe. You can simply dip your favorite cracker or bread into it instead of enjoying the dip with phyllo.

I will say that this is an easy spinach pie.

It reminds me of a Tiropita but, with spinach in some ways.
However, it is more of a Greek Spinach pie.

There are a few ingredients that you will need to make this recipe that you may not have on hand at the moment.

You will need phyllo dough for starters. We will be using phyllo dough in sheets, which you can find online here.

Also needed for this recipe is feta cheese.

We will used the feta cheese in crumbles, with is a rather easy task to do if yours in not already crumbled.
You can find Feta Cheese online if you need to.

What you will need to make this Spinach Feta Pie.

As mentioned, you will need phyllo dough for this recipe. We will be using phyllo dough in sheets, which you can find online here.

Also needed for this recipe is feta cheese.
We will used the feta cheese in crumbles, with is a rather easy task to do if yours in not already crumbled.
You can find Feta Cheese online if you need to.

The ingredients needed to make this Spinach Feta Pie.

  • Olive Oil– 2 1/2 tablespoons.
  • Garlic– 3 teaspoons minced. That is about 2 cloves worth.
  • Onion- 1, chopped.
  • Spinach- 2 ten ounces boxes or two pounds of the fresh stuff. Have the spinach chopped, thawed, and drained.
  • Eggs- 2, beaten lightly.
  • Feta Cheese – 1 cup crumbled.
  • Phyllo Dough – 8-10 sheets.
  • Seasonings as desired.
  • Additional olive oil for brushing.

Here is how to make this version of a Greek Spinach pie.

  • Preheat your oven to 350 and prep your baking dish or pie dish for nonstick.
  • Start by sauteing your garlic and onion in the olive oil over medium heat on the stove. When both start to become translucent, about 2-3 minutes, remove them from the stove and allow them to cool.
  • While your sauteed mix is cooling, combine together the spinach, eggs, and feta cheese in a medium bowl. Then stir int the sauteed ingredients as well as any optional seasonings.
  • To assemble the pie for baking, we will be layering half of the phyllo sheets, adding the spinach mix and then topping with the remaining phyllo sheets once again layering them. Every time that you layer your phyllo sheets, be sure to brush additional olive oil between the sheets. So, start by lining the baking dish with a phyllo sheet and brushing that sheet with olive oil then place the next sheet on top of the brushed with oil sheet. Repeat this process until you have layered half of your phyllo sheets (4-5).
  • Next, top those layered phyllo sheets with the spinach filling and repeat the phyllo sheet layering process over the filling until all of your phyllo sheets have been used up. Alternatively, you can leave the center of the pie exposed by folding your phyllo sheets on the top over.
  • Bake this for 35-40 minutes or until it begins to brown.
