White Wine Chicken certainly is the perfect pairing.
Especially, when it is part of the same recipe.

White Wine Chicken

White Wine Chicken

The perfect pairing of wine and chicken in a skillet.
For wine lovers, or even wine likers, this is great recipe to try!

This is a simple, yet refreshing, recipe.
You will no doubt like how easy this is to make as well!
All you really need is a skillet, some chicken, and well, of course, a bit of wine.

I am suggesting a fry white wine be used in this recipe.

A dry white wine will offer this recipe the true taste of the white wine flavors.
This taste from the wine that I am talking about will not be overpowered with a lot of sweet flavors.

White wine, as you know, is famous for the taste of fruit.
Often the fruit will include a mix of a fruit such as apple along with something citrus like lemon. What a fabulous pairing for our skillet chicken when it comes to flavors!

So you may be wondering which wines would work best in a chicken recipe such as this one.

The best white wines that come to mind for this recipe are Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonnay. I will explain.

Pinot Grigio is that light and refreshing white
Pinot Grigio is a white wine that is lighter than other white wines. However, Pinot Grigio is also a dry yet flavorful thanks to the fruit in it. This is a nice taste for poultry such as chicken.

Fruits- Citrus such as Lemon, Pears, Green Apples
Other- Flowers

Sauvignon Blanc
Sauvignon Blanc is possibly the most popular white wine available. It is know for its ‘grassy’ taste.
Also, Sauvignon Blanc is originally a French wine however, it is produced all over today.

Fruits- Lime, Grapefruit, Green Apples
Other- Grass, Jalapeno, Slate,

Chardonnay
Some folks say that Chardonnay is the most popular white wine around the world. It is a dry white wine with origins in France but, grown around the world today. Thus, this is a nice choice for many folks to drink.

Fruits- Pineapple
Other- Spices for Baking, Caramel, Green Apples, Citrus such as Lemon,

I would suggest any of the three wines that I have mentioned above.

You can easily choose one of the wines based on the fruit. Each of the wines have their own kind of flavoring thanks in part to the fruit that is added to the wine.

You can also go by the other tastes that are in the wine.
I am referring to the spices, grass, flowers and everything else that is listed under the classification of ‘other’.

Jump to Recipe

I would however, suggest not using a red wine in this recipe.

A red wine would bring a stronger and bolder flavoring that is more suitable perhaps, for red meat. The flavoring would probably over-take the chicken and the recipe could possibly become a ‘wine with chicken’ rather than a ‘chicken with wine’ recipe.

Something else to keep in mind with red wine is indeed the color red.
The red coloring from the red wine would darken the chicken to a pink or red color. I am thinking however, this color change may not look the best for a chicken dish that you are serving to others.

Wine pairing for this recipe is pretty easy and obvious.

I mean, since you have the bottle already opened, you might as well use the wine for drinking as well. Thus, you know that the taste will be consistent between the chicken and what you are drinking with it when you eat it.

White Wine Chicken

White Wine Chicken

The recipe for White Wine Chicken.

I prefer a chicken bread for this recipe. This is because chicken breast is a lighter white meat portion of the chicken that mirrors the white wine that is used in this recipe. However, feel free to use your chicken of choice.

As mentioned, the best white wines that come to mind for this recipe are Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonnay

Here is what you will need to make this White Wine Chicken recipe

  • Butter- 3 tablespoons. Use a plant based oil such as olive oil to keep this Mediterranean friendly.
  • Garlic- 2 cloves minced or chopped.
  • Chicken Breasts– 4 skinless and boneless.
  • White Wine- 1/2 cup. As mentioned above, the best white wines for this recipe include the dry ones. Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonnay would be my choices. Or, you can omit this or use a red wine to keep this Mediterranean friendly..
  • Seasonings such as salt and pepper- add these to taste. The amount that you add should have something to do with both your personal taste and also balancing out the flavors of your wine.
  • Oregano- 2 teaspoons. Use the dried oregano if you prefer to.

How to make White Wine Chicken.

  • Heat your butter and garlic on medium to medium high heat in a large skillet. Stir this mixture as needed to prevent burning and to evenly cook the garlic.
  • Next place the chicken breasts in to the skillet. The chicken should be spaced evenly aprart from one another.
  • Pour the wine over the chicken breasts and then top with your seasonings.
  • Continue to cook the chicken until it is fully cooked. This should take about 10-12 minutes per side depending on the heat of your skillet. Be sure to flip the chicken midway through cooking so that if cooks fully. You can also spoon the juice from the skillet over the chicken as it cooks to ensure that it stays moist.
  • Serve this with a salad or over rice or how you moist enjoy to serve it.
