What you need to make yellow rice.
- Olive Oil. Adds flavor and is used for sauteing.
- Yellow Onion. Chopped fine.
- Garlic. Minced .
- Long-grain white rice Such as like basmati or jasmine.
- Ground Turmeric.
- Peppercorns. Ground pepper can be used instead (a teaspoon).
- Whole Cloves
- Broth. Vegetable Broth for the vegan version and chicken broth for the nonvegan version of this recipe.
- Seasonings. Salt and Pepper.
- Garnish Options Bay Leaf, Fresh Parsley,Toasted Slivered Almonds , Raisins, and/or Lemon Wedges.
How to Make Yellow Rice.

- Prep Time 15 minutes .
- Cook Time 20 minutes .
- Servings 4 .
- How to serve : Serve with vegan or Mediterranean diet meals, such as Sheet Pan Maple Roasted Carrots and Sprouts, Mediterranean Diet Honey Mustard Chicken, or Portobello Mushroom Fajitas .
- Notes: You will need a saucepan to make this recipe.
- Sauté . In a medium saucepan on medium heat, heat your olive oil for one minute. Then add the onion and sauté it until soft and translucent (about three to four minutes). Once the onion is soft you can add the garlic and continue to sauté for an additional 30 seconds.
- Rice Add the rice to the skillet and sauté for another 30 seconds. Then stir in your turmeric, cumin, peppercorns, and cloves and continue to sauté the ingredients until the rice is slightly golden and fragrant (about a minute or two). You can add the bay leaf in this step if you are using one.
- Broth. Stir in the broth along with the salt and pepper and bring the ingredients to a boil. Once it begins to boil reduce the heat to low and cover the saucepan and allow the rice to simmer until tender and the broth has been absorbed (about 15-18 minutes).
- Rest. Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow it to sit (with the lid on) for five minutes.
- Serve Use a fork to fluff the rice. Then you can top the rice with your optional ingredients and serve as desired.

Tips for making the best yellow rice.
Using Long-grain white rice is essential in this recipe as it has the perfect starchy composition. You can rinse the rice under cold water to help remove excess starch but, this is not an essential step for this recipe.

- When using tumeric please take caution as it can make things (such as fingertips) turn yellow.
- After adding the broth, allow the ingredients to reach a full boil before immediately covering the pot and bumping the heat down to low. This step helps to create a perfect environment for steaming the rice without making it mushy.
- The resting step in this recipe is essential to this recipe as it helps to preserve the structure of the rice especially when you go to fluff it out.

How to store yellow rice.
Once your rice has fully cooled, it can be stored in an airtight container. When properly stored, yellow rice should keep for up to four days when refrigerated and frozen for up to a few months.
