Confused about which vegan milk is the best to use in your recipe?
Here is what you need to know about choosing the right vegan milk..

I have been asked are granola bars junk food.

The term “junk food” usually refers to food that has been overly processed, fried, or has ingredients that may not be the best for you.
Sugar is a common ingredient in some junk food.

This recipe for granola bars is made with what can be described as healthy ingredients.

Like many similar recipes, this recipe is made with oats.
Also, this recipe for granola bars is sweetened with maple syrup.

    What are granola bars.

Technically, granola bars are bars made using granola.
Granola is made with oats, nuts and sometimes add-ins such as dried fruit.

Granola bars are made with the main ingredients that you would find in granola.
That is, granola bars are made with oats and nuts and the add-ins.
To set the granola into bars, we will heat a mixture that includes maple syrup that will help bind the ingredients together.

Tips for making homemade granola bars.

This recipe calls for the nut butter of your choice.
If you are not interested in no added sugar or organic ingredients you can make your own nut butter or purchase an organic nut butter.

Here are some more great tips for you.

    1. Feel free to add in dried fruit such as raisins. The dried fruit can add to the texture and flavor of these bars.
    2. Both rolled oats and quick oats are used in this recipe. You can choose the oats as indicated in the ingredients or use only one kind of oats (same total amount).
    3. Almonds are added to this recipe for flavor and crunch. You can use another nut of your choice if you desire to.

    How to serve granola bars.

This recipe should make about 10 average sized granola bars.
However, you can also cut these into smaller bars if you desire.

Here are some ways to make your bars special.

    • Cut your bars into bite-sized bits and wrap them up for quick snacks..
    • However, you can also wrap the bars individually to take on the go.
    • Instead of slicing these into bars, you can use a cookie cutter to thus cut the bars into shapes while they are still soft.

How to store homemade granola bars.

These bars should be wrapped in a plastic zip top bag or plastic kitchen wrap to keep them fresh.
If properly stored they should keep for about a week at room temperature or longer if frozen.

How to make Vegan Chocolate Granola Bars.

    • Start by prepping a square baking dish with parchment paper that overhangs the the sides of the dish.
    • In a medium sized bowl, use a fork to combine together the two kinds of oats.
    • Next, in a medium sized saucepan on medium heat, combine together the maple syrup, coconut oil, and nut butter. Use a whisk or similar tool to stir the ingredients as they melt and blend together. Once the ingredients have blended together, remove the pan from the heat and stir in the chocolate chips.
    • Once the chocolate chips have blended into the combined ingredients you can stir in the shredded coconut, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and almonds.
    • Use a rubber spatula to fold in the oats. I suggest however, that you add half of the oats at a time, stirring between the addition. Once the oats have been worked through evenly in the mixture you can also transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish and press it in using the back of a large spoon or rubber spatula. However, feel free to sprinkle additional coconut on top.
    • Finally, refrigerate your granola bars until set- about a half hour. Then you can use the parchment paper that overhangs the sides to lift the bars from the pan and next cut into servings.
