Vegan chocolate covered bananas.
It does not get any better than frozen bananas that are coated with chocolate especially on a warm day.
I like that frozen chocolate covered bananas are really better than most any kind of frozen ice cream bar when it comes to taste and nutrition.

Ingredients needed to make easy frozen bananas with chocolate.
The ingredients used to make this recipe are simple ingredients that you may already have on hand.
- Bananas. Your bananas should be 'just ripe' for best results.
- Chocolate. Use a good quality chocolate that is also vegan. For sweeter chocolate, you can use a vegan semi sweet chocolate while dark chocolate will be more bitter, but will be more sturdy when frozen. Your chocolate should be chopped.
- Coconut Oil. This used to help smooth out the melted chocolate. The coconut oil should be melted.
- Topping ingredients are optional and include: chopped nuts, shaved coconut, sea salt, or vegan sprinkles.

Tips for making the best chocolate covered bananas.
When selecting bananas to use in this recipe, look for bananas that are ripe and firm. Overly ripe bananas tend to not hold on to the chocolate as well and overly ripe bananas will not hold up well on a stick. A few dark spots on the banana skin are okay.
More helpful tips for you.
- To make this recipe we will first slice the bananas in half so that each banana can make two frozen treats. Another option is to slice the bananas in one inch increments to make frozen bites rather than bananas on a stick.
- Coconut oil is used to help smooth out the melted chocolate. Another neutral oil, such as vegetable oil, can also work.
- When selecting chocolate make sure that your chocolate is indeed vegan to keep this recipe vegan.
- A good quality chocolate bar that is between 60 and 70 percent cocoa solids also works best in this recipe although you can try a mix of chocolates or the chocolate of your choice.
- To prevent the bananas from turning brown, I like to double wrap mine (use two zip top bags for example) before placing them into the freezer for storage. Some folks may spray their bananas with lemon juice but, this will also affect the flavor of the bananas.
- If you are adding toppings, such as chopped nuts, to your chocolate coated bananas, you will need to work fast. This is because the chocolate will be setting which means the topping will not stick.
How to make our Favorite Chocolate Covered Frozen Bananas.
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Chilling Time: 2 hours 30 minutes
Serving: 8 banana halves.
- Start by lining a rimmed baking sheet that can fit into your freezer with parchment paper.
- Slice each banana horizontally in half so that each banana makes two similar sized pieces. Then stick a wooden stick into the center of the open end of the banana halves (about three quarters of the way into each).
- Peel each of the banana pieces and then place them on to the prepared baking sheet.
- Cover the bananas and then freeze them until frozen (about an hour).
- Before melting the chocolate, have your topping ready to go as you will need to work quickly coating the melted chocolate with your toppings. Placing the toppings in shallow bowls work best.
- To melt the chocolate using the double boiler method: In a heat proof bowl over a pot of simmering water, melt the chopped chocolate until mostly melted. Then remove the chocolate from heat and stir until all the chunks have melted.
- For the microwave method: make sure that you have chopped your chocolate very fine. Microwave the chocolate until smooth, stopping to stir every 15 seconds.
- Stir the coconut oil into the chocolate, making adjustments as needed, to smooth out the chocolate. Then transfer the chocolate to a large glass measuring cup or similar item for dipping the bananas.
- Carefully dip each banana into the melted chocolate, gently shake of the excess chocolate, and then sprinkle the toppings over the melted chocolate. Place the coated banana back on to the baking sheet and repeat the process until all of the banana pieces have been coated.
- Return the bananas to the freezer until the coating has set (about an hour to an hour and a half).
Expert Tip 👉 Using a tall glass or measuring cup to dip your bananas makes it easier to fully cover the entire banana piece with chocolate. Do this step gently as you do not want the banana to come off of the stick.
How to store chocolate covered bananas.
One the chocolate has fully set, you can wrap each banana individually in plastic wrap or similar item. If kept frozen, these bananas should keep for up to a couple of months.
