Finally, a Mediterranean Diet Ranch Dressing that is not full of a lot of nasty fats!

To be more specific, this is a healthier version of a classic mayonnaise and buttermilk based dressing and dip.

Mediterranean Diet Ranch Dressing

Mediterranean Diet Ranch Dressing

Ranch dressing is known as that creamy and delicious salad dressing that can also serve as a dip.
It is also a perfect complement to vegetables, such as carrots, celery, and lettuce,

This salad dressing recipe is an alternative to the one that I used in my popular recipe for Easiest Greek Salad in Vinaigrette Dressing.

Certainly, that recipe was all about celebrating the Mediterranean diet with a great tasting salad that embraced a Vinaigrette dressing. This ranch dressing is a dressing that can work with so many other salads.

If you were to ask does ranch dressing have mayo or mayonnaise, I would tell you yes.

Mayonnaise gives ranch dressing that creamy consistency that makes it so suitable for both a dressing and a dip.
Ranch dressing also has sour cream in it and the combination of the two ingredients can be one that is high in fat, which can make a salad not so healthy.

This ranch dressing recipe uses substitute ingredients to make it a lower fat recipe.

Using alternative ingredients for these dairy products can help us make this a more healthy alternative especially when it comes to making a healthy salad even better. Vegan diet followers can also use alternatives as I will show you.

If you were wondering is ranch dressing vegan-friendly, I would tell you not as prepared as we know it.

Ranch dressing contains mayonnaise which is made with eggs. However, we will use a vegan mayonnaise that is also lower in fat.

Homemade ranch dressing and also calls for sour cream.

Sour cream gives the ranch both that tangy flavor and more of that creamy base. An alternative for sour cream is Greek Yogurt. Vegan folks can use plant-based milk (soy, unsweetened almond etc) instead along with some vinegar.

Tips for making a great Mediterranean Diet Ranch Dressing

So I just mentioned that ranch dressing is normally a dairy (with fat!) based recipe. However, using alternatives such as Greek Yogurt, Vegan plant-based milk (soy, unsweetened almond etc) and we will use a vegan mayonnaise that is also lower in fat, we can make this a Mediterranean diet-friendly ranch dressing.

Here are some more great tips for you.

  1. This recipe is for a ranch dressing. We know that ranch dressing also makes a great dip. To make this ranch dressing thicker in order to make a dip, you can add additional vegan mayonnaise and by not adding any or most of the milk.
  2. Ranch dressing is famous for the seasonings that are added to it. Feel free to jazz up or tone down your ranch dressing by altering both the amount and the kind of seasonings that you add to your dressing.
  3. An easy cheat for the seasonings is to use ranch dressing dry mix or seasoning (please read the ingredient labels) or you can explore other seasonings such as one of my favorites from Trader Joes!
  4. My son always adds a bit of hot sauce to jazz up his food. This could be a great idea especially if you are making a dip.

Seasoning is important so you may be asking what ranch seasoning is made of.

Not surprisingly, at least to me, much of what is in ranch seasoning is made from pretty common stuff that may be in your cabinet right now. For some folks, a lot of these seasonings come with salt.

Here are ingredients for ranch dressing that do not contain salt.

You can add your own salt as needed if you desired. What you will need to make your own ranch dressing mix you will need onion powder (1 tbsp), garlic powder (1 tbsp), dill(1-2 tbsp), parsley (1 tbsp), salt, (pinch or as desired)and pepper (pinch).

Here is how to store you homemade ranch dressing.

Ranch dressing should be stored in a covered container, such as a bottle like these, in the refrigerator. The properly stored dressing should keep for about a week.
