You may be wondering are energy balls good for you.
Like with anything else, the food is only as good for you as the ingredients that are put into the food.

People ask what can I use instead of dates in energy balls.
I will start by telling you why there are dates in this recipe.
The dates are used for flavor, sweetening, and most importantly, to bind together the other ingredients.
if you take out the dates then you will need to find another ingredient(s) that will do those three things in your recipe.
You can use maple syrup or honey however, you may need to adjust the other ingredients to make this work (balls roll and stick together rolled).
Another idea is for you to use peanut butter, again adjusting ingredients as needed.
Tips for making coconut date balls
Using dried dates is possible in this recipe. However, keep in mind that those dates should not have any other ingredients (sugar)added to them and should probably be soaked in warm water (about a half hour) to plump them up.
Here are some more great tips for you.

How do you pick dates?
Preferably in this recipe, you should use fresh and raw dates.
Using coated dates, the kind that are easier to snack on because they do not stick together, is not recommended.
I suggest using raw dates that are sticky.
Because the dates are sticky, they will work even better to hold your ingredients together!
You can spray nonstick or use a bit of water on your hands to keep the dates from sticking to your hands.
Ingredients needed to make 4 Ingredient Date Balls

How to make date balls with coconut.
- If your almonds have not been chopped, chop them up. Then place them in a shallow bowl and set the bowl aside while you work. Also, place a piece of parchment paper on a plate or on the bottom of a container that can be used to store your energy balls.
- Place your dates in a food processor (or strong blender) and process until a date forms. You can add up to a tablespoon of warm water if needed if the dates are dry.
- Once you have a paste you can add the almond flour and coconut. Pulse your mixture until it well combined. You should get a sticky paste from this.
- This recipe should make ten balls. Use a large spoon or scoop so that you can scoop out the date paste that will be used for the first ball. Form a ball between your hands and then roll the ball in the chopped almonds to coat it. Place the energy ball on the parchment paper that you have laid out and repeat until all of the balls have been completed.
- Refrigerate for about a half hour to set before serving.
