Tips for making the best bread dipping oil.
Fresh basil leaves were used to make my dipping oil more authentic. To save time, you can use dried basil (you will need about a quarter to a third of a cup) and skip the blanching step.
More helpful tips for you.
- Use a good quality extra virgin olive oil. This is important for the flavor and quality of your dip.
- For the fresh basil, use basil that is the perfect green color and intact for optimal flavor.
- Feel free to add oregano or thyme for even more flavor.
- Adding up to a tablespoon of vinegar to your dipping sauce can help smooth out the texture, balance the flavors, and improve the shelf life of your dip.
- Do you have to do the whole blanching thing? For something that is a bit less authentic, try using a half cup of finely diced basil instead of the packed leaves. You can then skip the blanching step.
- To extend the storage life of this dip, add the garlic before serving rather than storing it with the fresh garlic.
