What you need to make lentil stew.
- Olive Oil Used for sauteing the onion.
- Onion. A red onion was used to make my stew. Your onion should be diced small.
- Carrot. Also diced, the carrot adds to the texture and the flavor of this stew.
- Lentils. Brown lentils were used in making my stew as they add flavor and can hold up to the heat when pressure cooked.
- Broth. Vegetable broth or the broth of your choice will add flavor and moisture to this recipe.
- Soy Sauce Adds depth to the flavor in this stew.
- Seasonings. Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, Dried Rosemary, Dried Thyme, Salt, and Pepper.
- Tomato Sauce. Adds to the flavor and the texture of this stew.

How to make Lentil Stew in an Instant Pot.
- Prep Time: 5 minutes .
- Pressure Cook Time: 30 minutes .
- Servings: 6 .
- How to Serve: Serve over Mashed Potatoes potatoes or with cauliflower rice .
- Notes: You will need a pressure cooker and a wooden spoon or spoon that is friendly to pressures cookers to make this recipe .
- Saute Set your pot to the saute setting and heat the olive oil until warm. Once the oil is warm you can add the diced onion to the warm oil and saute until fragrant and slightly transparent (about three minutes).
- Combine. Add the carrots, lentils, broth, soy sauce and seasonings to the pot. Close the lid and valve (make sure the pressure valve is in the correct position, according to the manufacturers' directions) and set the pot to high pressure for 20 minutes.
- Release. Allow the Instant Pot to naturally release and then take the lid off of the pot and turn the saute mode back on.
- Tomato Sauce. Stir in the tomato sauce and continue to cook for five minutes or until thickened.

Tips for making the best lentil stew
Brown lentils were used to make my stew. Other lentils that could work in this recipe include Green Lentils ( for a slight peppery flavor) or Red and Yellow Lentils (for a sweeter and nuttier flavor as well as a creamier texture ).
More helpful tips for you.
- This recipe used dry lentils. There is not need to be soaked before adding them to this recipe.
- Low sodium broth and low sodium soy sauce can be used in this recipe.
- While soaking your lentils for this recipe is not necessary, you could rinse them before adding them to the pot to remove any debris.
