You may be smiling if you are a vegan diet follower because this may seem like an obvious one for you.
But, I get the question as there was a time when I too was not all that familiar with the vegan diet myself.
Here is the quick answer to anyone asking if anything is vegan.
If there is no added animal byproduct, even cheese and milk, added then it is probably vegan.
This recipe is no exception as it has no animal byproduct as followed in the instructions below.
You may be asking, is there a vegan substitute for yogurt?
Yes, yogurt is usually the dairy product of choice in a normal parfait. Although, other dairy such as ice cream can be sometimes used.
This recipe is based upon a fruit parfait that is layered with yogurt.
You can find vegan or nondairy yogurt most likely in the refrigerator section of your local grocery store. Some are coconut based and others are almond based (kind of like milk alternatives!).

Tips for making a vegan parfait.
So I just mentioned that instead of regular dairy yogurt, we will use a vegan alternative.
While you can usually find vegan yogurt at a local grocery store, some folks like to learn how to make dairy-free yogurt instead.
Here are some more great tips for you.
- This recipe looks attractive when you use two different colored berries that are similar in size. I like blueberries, raspberries, blackberries or even cut up strawberries as they are tasty and almost always available where I live.
- There is a simple base that is used in this recipe. Feel free to omit the base and use your favorite granola, oatmeal, or similar ingredients instead.
- This recipe is meant to have no added sugar except for a bit of maple syrup that is used. I am mentioned this because some product, such as a nondairy yogurt, may have sugar added to it. If you do not want added sugar in your parfait, please check for sugar in the ingredients that you add.
How to make the base layer in a parfait.
This parfait recipe has three layer layers that need to be made (yogurt layer is used twice).
The base layer is on the bottom of the parfait is kind of like a crust on a pie as it is there to hold the other layers.
Here is how to make the base for this recipe.
You will need:
- Walnuts- 1 cup shelled and halved or pieces.
- Coconut Oil- 1 tablespoon.
- Maple Syrup- 1 tablespoon.
To make the base: Place the walnuts in a blender and pulse the nuts so they break apart and look like breadcrumbs. Then add the coconut oil and maple syrup and pulse again. Set this aside until assembling the parfait.
Can a parfait be made nonvegan?
Yes, you can make this recipe without it having to be a vegan recipe.
Simply use real dairy yogurt and a dairy-based fat for the crust.
