- The roasted walnuts really add a lot to this recipe as far as texture and taste go. You can roast your walnuts for about eight minutes at 350, checking and stirring them as needed.
- This slaw recipe really tastes good if you toss the ingredients (except for the nuts) with the dressing and refrigerate the salad for about a half hour to allow the ingredients to set together. Then add the walnuts before serving.
- Adding dried fruit can also add to the color, texture, and flavor of this recipe. I like raisins or cranberries in this recipe .
How to store brussels sprouts slaw.
This slaw should be stored in an airtight container and refrigerated, if possible without the walnuts and dressing. If stored tossed with the dressing it should keep for about a day and for a few days without the dressing.

This is a simple recipe for slaw that is made with fresh brussels sprouts. The sprouts are first shaved or shredded which can be done by hand, in a food processor, or by carefully using a mandoline.
We will then combine the sprouts with carrots, celery and apples.
Then we will toss the ingredients in a homemade vinaigrette dressing.
Before serving, roasted walnuts are added to the slaw.
Ingredients needed to make brussel sprout slaw with no mayo.
- Brussels Sprouts. The sprouts should be shaved or shredded.
- Celery. Sliced width-wise about ¼" wide.
- Carrots. You carrots should be grated.
- Apple. Skin and core first removed. Then sliced into thin bite sized pieces (about 1 ½" tall by ¼" if possible.
- Dijon mustard. Plain or ground work in this recipe.
- Maple Syrup. Syrup adds a sweet balance to the other ingredients in this recipe.
- Olive Oil. Adds both flavor and moisture to the slaw.
- Apple Cider Vinegar Added for that perfect tangy balance in the slaw.
- Seasonings as desired. My slaw was seasoned with ground ginger, salt, and pepper.
How to make Sweet and Savory Brussels Sprouts Slaw.
Serves: 6-8 .
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Total Time: 20 minutes.
- Start by preparing the ingredients as indicated above. This includes toasting your walnuts, shredding the sprouts, slicing the celery, grating the carrots, and slicing the apple.
- Add the prepared ingredients, except for the walnuts, to a large bowl and toss.
- To make the dressing, in a smaller bowl, whisk together the mustard, maple syrup, olive oil and apple cider vinegar. You can add seasonings as desired.
- Pour half of dressing over the ingredients in the large bowl and then toss. Add the remaining dressing, or as much as desired, and toss again.
- Gently toss in the walnuts and serve.
