I always remind people that just about anything is healthier if the ingredients are healthier.
Also, 'healthier' may have different definitions depending on the lifestyle or diet that you are most loyal to.
What I will say is that this recipe is not made with (dairy) eggs or butter.
Instead of eggs and butter, we will use vegan versions.
Really, it can be hard to tell the difference in taste.

This recipe for vegan donuts can be topped with a chocolate glaze.
The chocolate glaze is also vegan.
Here is how to make the vegan chocolate glaze.
In a microwave bowl, melt together vegan dark chocolate chips (1 cup) and coconut ol (½ tablespoon, stopping to stir every 30 seconds. When melted and the donuts are cooled, simply transfer the chocolate to a shallow bowl and dip the donuts into it to cover.

- Flaxseed Meal- 1 tablespoon.
- Water- 3 tablespoons, room temperature.
- Flour- 1 ½ cups + 1 tablespoon, all purpose. Can use a gluten free all purpose flour for gluten free option.
- Baking Powder- 1 ½ teaspoon.
- Unsweetened Cocoa powder-3 tablespoons.
- Vegan Butter- ½ cup, melted.
- Sugar- 1 cup. Can use a bake-able granular sugar alternative for low sugar option.
- Unsweetened Almond Milk- ¾ cup + 1 tablespoon.
- Vanilla Extract- 1 teaspoon.
- Optional, glaze, sprinkles, chopped nuts, or shredded coconut on top,
How to make Vegan Chocolate Donuts.
- Preheat the oven and prep two donut baking pans well for nonstick.
- Prepare your vegan egg by mixing together the flaxseed meal with the water in a small bowl. Set this bowl aside.
- In a large bowl, combine together the flour, baking powder, and unsweetened cocoa powder using a whisk or a fork.
- Next, in a large mixing bowl, beat together the vegan butter and sugar until smooth. Then mix in the vegan egg, almond milk, add vanilla extract. Beat in the dry ingredients from the first bowl until just mixed.
- Transfer the mixture to the prepped baking pans for donuts, filling each cup ¾ full. Bake for 15 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean then remove from oven and allow to fully cool before removing the donuts from the pan.
- To glaze the donuts, simply dip each donut into the glaze and place on a parchment paper lined baking sheet. You can top the donuts with optional ingredient while the glaze hardens.
