Tips for making homemade the best protein bars.

Oats are used to make this recipe. I recommend that you used rolled or old fashioned oats rather than quick oats for best results. Seed butter could also work in this recipe.

Here are some more great tips for you.

    1. Creamy unsalted peanut butter was used to make my bars. You can use another creamy nut butter if desired.
    2. For gluten free bars, use ingredients that are labeled gluten free. This is especially true with the oats as sometimes oats are not totally gluten free.
    3. Prepping your pan well is essential in this recipe as they are not overly moist. I like to double prep my pan, line with foil or parchment and then spray lightly with nonstick.

How to store homemade protein bars.

These bars should be stored in an airtight container . If properly stored, the bars should keep for about a week at room temperature.

Ingredients to make protein oat bars.

    • Peanut Butter. Creamy peanut butter works best in this recipe. Using unsalted and unsweetened peanut butter are my choice.
    • Maple Syrup. I would not substitute honey (vegetarian) in this recipe as honey does not measure like maple syrup and can through off the ingredient balance as a result.
    • Salt. Use a small amount of a larger salt such as Kosher salt.
    • Oats. Use rolled or old fashioned oats for this recipe.
    • Ground Flax Seeds. Added for texture.

Expert Tip 👉 Feel free to add raisins, chocolate chips, or shredded coconut to your bars for additional flavors.

How to make 5 Ingredient Protein Oat Bars.

    Prep Time: 10 minutes.
    Bake Time: 15 minutes.
    Servings: 8 bars.

    • Preheat your oven to 350 and prep a square baking pan for nonstick. I like to use parchment paper that overhangs the edges of the pan and spraying that lightly with nonstick.
    • Cream together the peanut butter, maple syrup, and salt until creamy.
    • Add the oats and ground flax to the bowl and stir until combined.
    • Transfer the mixture to your prepared baking pan and use your hands or a small rolling pin to press the mixture into place so that there is an even layer.
    • Bake the bars for 10-12 minutes, in the center of your oven, or until the edges begin to turn golden brown.
    • Let the bars cool in the pan for 10 minutes to fully set before removing them to fully cool on a rack.

Expert Tip 👉 If the mixture is too crumbly to work with you can add a small amount of additional maple syrup to help the ingredients stick together. For a mixture that is too moist, simply stir in a small amount of additional oats.
